Chumki is name of a portrait of success woman in Manikganj now. She has a pathetic story in early and success story in present stage. She lives in her family at Jelepara in Dighee Union of Manikganj district. Chumki’s parents Chand Mohon Halder and have 3 sons and 3 daughters, Chumk is one of them. In early age of 3 she was attached by Polio and ultimately sustained disability on the both legs.It broke into pieces a dream of her parents and awarded uncertainty of her fate. Since, she unfortunately began disability life with crippling to move from one to another place in the family. As it made her difficulties and imposed as burden on the family, in dilemma what should do. A stereotype social of stigma, prejudice are experiencing her family.

In 2002, Manikganj Disabled People’s Organization to Development (MDPOD) kicked off right-based program for the persons with disabilities in Manikganj. During the project period she was identified as grassroots member in this program. A wheelchair was provided to empower her mobility and dignified life. She was provided a capacity building training to increase her self-confidence and potential. She was provided dress tailoring training to engage into Income Generating Activity (IGA) and provided a sewing machine by the MDPOD. She set up a tailoring room at her home and working on dress-making by receiving order from neighbours and community. Now she is able to earn 3-4 thousand taka monthly and helps her parents’ family. In addition, she trained some of women on tailoring who are now self-reliant in the community.
