Md. Sattar is a successful man with disability in his community, lives at Dighee Union in Manikganj. He has an own pathetic story of his early life which he overcame and proved the success with his indomitable efforts. So, let us see his fact story.
A tragic story of Sattar is in his early life when he was only 26 years old. He was dropped out early age from school after completion of primary level due to family poverty, lives at a village in Dighee Union under Manikganj district. He was a young rikshaw puller and married early. He somehow maintained his family members cost for wife and kids with his earning by pulling rikshaw and was going happy family life though his earns small income, but could manage cost.
But his happy life was no longer when he got a road accident and severely injured on the legs. He was hospitalized and was under treatment few months. Though he paid last coin of money for this treatment and lost every valuable things, but was amputated one of the legs. As a result, he finally sustained disability and became an elbow crutch user person. Then he began to live with struggling life in family and community. His small income could not meet daily need of food, health care and other costs of the family. After post disability his happy family began to unhappy in family life due to poverty. This situation was deteriorating day by day, no know ways of solution.
There was a turning point for Sattar to change life through the program of Manikganj Disabled People’s Organization to Development (MDPOD) in 2002. He got an opportunity and was enlisted as a member of disability program. He met with MDPOD’s Director Md. Antaj Ali who motivated him for self-reliance activities. With the capacity building training and support of MDPOD, he set up a grocery shop near his house in the village. Through this cooperation he explored his indomitable efforts which helped him to change life. Day by day he earns good profit from his shop and can manage family needs and kids schooling. Thus he leads happy family life now and made an example for other persons with disabilities.
